Serious Injuries

A woman was seriously injured Sunday when her motorized scooter was struck as she crossed Main at Hess.

Hamilton police are looking for witnesses after a 51-year-old woman was seriously injured when her motorized scooter collided with a pickup truck downtown Sunday morning.

The woman is in intensive care in stable condition in hospital.

Police said he Hamilton woman was on a scooter at a crosswalk at Main Street West and Hess Street South when a truck travelling eastbound on Main collided with the scooter at 8:30 a.m.

Police said she suffered serious injuries when she was thrown from the scooter. The 49-year-old Hamilton man driving the truck was not injured

Her next of kin have been notified, police said, but they are in the process of notifying extended family and do not want to release her name.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision. Witnesses are asked to contact Detective Constable Hendrik Vandercraats of the collision reconstruction unit at 905-546-4753.

Main was closed from Queen Street South to Caroline Street South and Hess Street is closed from Jackson Street West to George Street.
